Great Books for Boys

Which books will get my son reading?  We hear this question a lot at Within Reach Learning Center!  While boys are just as good at reading as girls it’s sometimes hard for them to find books that really grab their attention.

Here are some great book series that will grab your boy’s attention !in the first book and keep them reading through the last!  Visit bookseries.com for even more titles.

 by Bruce Hale – Perfect for 3rd-6th grade boys, this series of 12 books will definitely grab their attention and keep it.  This hip, funny mystery series features a clever, wisecracking fourth-grade lizard, Chet Gecko, who keeps busy with the many mysteries at his wacky school.  Some of the titles include Farewell My Lunchbag, Hiss Me Deadly, and The Possum Always Rings Twice.

Comeback Kids by Mike Lupica This 5 book series is perfect if you have a sports lover on your hands!  Each book in this fresh and compelling sports series features high action and a strong character education theme. Boys especially will identify with the main characters as they work to balance their love of sports with other aspects of their lives.

Leven Thumps Series by Obert Skye – This 5 book series is sure to interest young boys because of the brave, determined boy that is the main character.  Leven Thumps, once an ordinary 14-year-old boy from Oklahoma, has been retrieved from Reality and sent to stop those in Foo who are nurturing dark dreams and planning to invade and rule Reality.

The Shadow Children by Margaret P. Haddix – Boys will love the “mature” feel of this book series’ premise.  In a futuristic and over-populated Earth, the government limits families to two children. Luke Garner, a shadow child–born after the first two in his family–joins with other shadow children in the effort to overthrow the Population Police.  There are 7 books to enjoy in this series.
