Fun Rainy Day Activities

Just when we were getting used to the 80 degree weather, another rainy weekend! So how do you keep your kids entertained when you’re stuck indoors all day?  Here are a few ideas from Within Reach Learning Center to keep them busy and learning at the same time.

Money Hunt – Search the house and piggy banks for spare change   Have the kids count the money and add it all up and then head to the movies for the afternoon.  This is great practice for counting and adding money.

Bean Bag Toss – Write a few addition, subtraction, multiplication or division facts on paper plates and arrange them on the floor.  Have the kids toss a bean bag onto a plate, answer the math problem, ad earn a point.  For an added challenge you can put harder questions on a plate that’s up on the couch or a table and make these worth more points.

Recipe Challenge – Pick a favorite recipe and have the kids make it.  They will get great practice with reading fractions, measuring ingredients, and following written directions.  If you have older kids challenge them to double the recipe – great practice for adding fractions!

Put on a Play – Have the kiddos chose a favorite story and act it out.  They can make put together costumes from you closet, gather props, and bring their favorite characters to life.  Just pop some popcorn, snuggle up on the couch, and enjoy your one-of-a-kind performance!

What are some of you’re favorite rainy day activities?
