Great Summer Learning Websites

Summer break is finally here!  We have talked to you already about the importance of keeping your kids reading, writing, and practicing math over the summer.  Within Reach Learning Center is beginning our summer reading and math contests as an incentive.

One way that kids can practice over the summer is on the computer.  Here are some great educational websites to check out this summer…

Into the Book is a fun reading comprehension website that allows kids to “go into the book” and play games that help practice different reading strategies.  The site  focuses on eight research-based strategies: Using Prior Knowledge, Making Connections, Questioning, Visualizing, Inferring, Summarizing, Evaluating and Synthesizing.

Fun Brain is a favorite among kids because the games are, well, fun!  The site offers math games that practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and more, reading games like Mad Libs, web versions of their favorite books, critical thinking games like Sudoku, comics to read, and tons of games just for fun.  Kids of all ages with love this site because there is something for everyone at every level.

Highlights Kids is a great site for reading, playing games, and cool science experiments.  Just as much fun as the magazine, the site is a great, educational place to hang out and learn about interesting topics.  With sections like Read It, Make It, and Play It, kids are sure to find something they like.  Kids will be excited about reading with this site because the articles are interesting and geared toward them!

Check out for some other great websites.

Within Reach Learning Center hopes that these websites bring your kids some fun this summer.  As a reminder, time spent on educational websites count toward the summer reading and math contests!  Just don’t forget to get outside, too!
