St Patrick’s Day Fun

At Within Reach Learning Center we are gearing up for some St. Patty’s Day fun this week!  Here are a few ideas that you can use at home to have some Irish fun of your own…

Make a leprechaun trap!  Those sneaky little leprechauns are always causing mischief.   Help your kids make a trap to catch those little guys once and for all!  Whether it be a simple shoe box design or something more elaborate, your kids will have so much fun coming up with the perfect trap!  And as an added bonus this really makes them use their problem solving skills!  Here are a couple designs we like.

Have a St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt!  What could be more fun than running around the house looking for clues?  You can leave the clues yourself or have the “leprechaun” leave them.  Either way your kids will love this fun activity.  Leave gold coins at each spot with the next clue leading them to a prize.  The best part is that this is something that the whole family can do together.  Here are some ideas for clues…

Read a great St. Patty’s Day book.  A book is a great way to teach your kids about Irish heritage.  A couple that we like are…

The Night Before St. Patrick’s Day by Natasha Wing –  An Irish twist on a Christmas classic. It’s the night before St. Patrick’s Day, and Tim and Maureen are wide awake setting traps to catch a leprechaun! When they wake the next morning to the sound of their dad playing the bagpipes and the smell of their mom cooking green eggs, they’re shocked to find that they’ve actually caught a leprechaun. But will they be able to find his pot of gold?

There Was and Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover by Lucille Colandro – There was an Old Lady who swallowed things over and over, and now she’s come back to swallow a clover!  She’s back! That lovely old lady has returned just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. Now she’s swallowing items to make the perfect rainbow to hide a pot of gold.
